Class A Equipment Transport Driver
Clairemont Equipment, a Southern California equipment rental, sales, and service company with over 55 years in business, has an immediate opening for a Class A Equipment Transport Driver at our Indio location.
We represent quality construction equipment manufacturers including Komatsu, Dynapac, Yanmar, JLG, and others, providing reliable equipment solutions to contractors, municipalities, industrial customers, and homeowners throughout Southern California.
IMPORTANT
This is not a traditional over-the-road (OTR) trucking position.
Applicants must have hands-on experience operating construction equipment and personally loading, securing, transporting, and unloading equipment onto trailers. Drivers are expected to safely operate equipment onto and off trailers and properly secure loads without the use of forklifts or loading crews.
A minimum of three (3) years of construction equipment hauling experience is required.
Experience limited to freight, dry van, refrigerated, or traditional OTR trucking does not satisfy this requirement.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate, load, secure, transport, and unload construction equipment.
- Transport equipment including excavators, skid steers, compact track loaders, wheel loaders, rollers, forklifts, telehandlers, boom lifts, scissor lifts, and similar construction equipment.
- Perform equipment deliveries and pickups at customer jobsites, company branches, and other designated locations.
- Properly inspect and secure all loads in accordance with DOT requirements and company safety standards.
- Communicate with dispatch regarding delivery status, route changes, delays, and customer needs.
- Assist customers with basic operating instructions during equipment delivery and pickup.
- Verify delivery and pickup locations and ensure equipment is delivered safely and accurately.
- Complete required delivery documentation, inspections, logs, photos, and electronic forms using company-provided mobile devices and applications.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Maintain a professional appearance and provide excellent customer service at all times.
- Work safely and comply with all company policies, DOT regulations, and applicable safety requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL).
- Current Medical Examiner's Certificate.
- Ability to comply with all DOT, DMV, and FMCSA requirements.
- Minimum three (3) years of hands-on experience hauling construction equipment.
- Experience operating construction equipment for loading and unloading purposes.
- Experience securing construction equipment using chains, binders, and other approved securement methods.
- Ability to safely load equipment onto trailers without assistance from forklifts or loading crews.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in the field.
- Ability to use smartphones, navigation software, and mobile applications.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within the equipment rental, construction, heavy equipment, or contractor service industries.
- Experience operating lowbed, tilt-bed, flatbed, dovetail, or equipment trailers.
- Familiarity with Riverside County, Imperial County, Coachella Valley, and surrounding Southern California roadways.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and equipment inspection experience.
Schedule and Work Environment
- Local driving position with daily deliveries and pickups.
- Typical travel is within the Coachella Valley, Imperial Valley, Inland Empire, and surrounding Southern California areas.
- Occasional longer-distance trips between company branch locations may be required.
- Overtime is common and expected during busy periods.
